Where to dispose of appliances and scrap metal
Scrap metal yards take most metal appliances and sometimes pay for them. Fridges, freezers and AC units need their refrigerant recovered first, so check whether the yard handles that or requires a certificate.
How to do it
- Call to confirm they take appliances and whether refrigerant must already be removed.
- Ask whether your utility offers a fridge or freezer pickup rebate.
- Remove food, doors on fridges (for safety) and loose parts before hauling.
